Cybook Ocean: thin like…

Cybook Gen1 vs Cybook Ocean

The Cybook Ocean will be the thinnest reader in the world at a mere 7mm! That’s really thin. So thin, it’s hard to imagine without seeing it! So how can we demonstrate it visually? Photo of a reader next to a pencil, next to a coin… been there, done that. So we’re looking for some new ideas.

How would you show just how thin the Cybook Ocean is? The most creative idea could win a Cybook Odyssey 2013!

To get you started, here’s a photo of our very first Cybook, from over 12 years ago, next to the Cybook Ocean. We’ve come a long way, baby!

  1. I would show it on top of an automatic pencil with 7mm diameter lead, as if the lead were holding the reader up – that would also send the message it is light, not just thin!

  2. I would suggest comparing it to what it is meant to replace, like a magazine, yeah. Put is side by side with a sports magazine, for example. There are many magazines there at the news agent that are thicker than 7mm.

  3. Hi, thanks for the opportunity!

I would test the users/buyers to find it! My idea is:
There is a shelf with some books, close to each other (with a 7mm-9mm space between two, more or less). The Cybook Ocean should be put between the books. Now, to make the task a little harder, the background of the shelf must be black and you could also play with the light, so that the Cybook would almost be invisible.
The idea is that the Cybook is so thin it fits between our books, when we thought we had no more space less.

  4. I think the comparison must be with a japanese sword, the katana. A katana has over 7 mm of thickness, the same as Cybook Ocean.

The beauty and the might of Cybook Ocean is the same as a japanes sword.

  5. A few suggestions:
    1) show the device side by side with leatherbound print editions of the public domain titles included on the device.
    2) utilize your history: a diagram like this http://tinyurl.com/mr922s8 would demonstrate your designing/engineering prowess! and would constitute an interesting blog post.
    3) another comparison of sizes could be made with a fully stocked library shelf and its virtual counterpart on the device.

    – and a feature request: an easier way to customize the pictures displayed when the device is shut off – including an option to use the front cover of the latest opened book as such (everyone might not like to have what theyre are reading to be apparent by default).
