  1. Most impressive! This makes the orizon a completely new device for me. Thanks! Both annotations and note taking in epubs work great.

Will there be general note-taking in the future? Like being able to draw simple things and write texts? This could come in handy I think.

Also, there was talk about an API and or SDK to add your own features to the Orizon or other Bookeen readers. Will this ever come true?

  3. Dear all
thanks. I downloaded the firmware. It is exactly as promised.
It would be welcome some more instructions on the new facilities, even though most of them are quite self explanatory. (An updated manual?)
It seems to me that in this way the reader lines up with the state of the art, and I am sure that future improvements will give further features.
Nonetheless I feel that all the features extra- just book-reading, are not so relevant. I find it excellent just reading this bookreader as a paper book.

  4. Great update, one question though. Note taking works fine, but what about note reading? Is it correct to state that one will see the note marker but cannot see the contents of the notes anymore?

    Like

    1. Hello Paul,
thanks for your message. You can see the contents of your notes by touching the note marker to display the notes menu, then select “Edit note”. Notes will also be synced with ADE and you can then display them on your PC.

  5. thank you for the update I really like it! the one thing I would still like to be able to do is return library books early directly from my orizon even if I download them to the orizon by visiting the library via the wi-fi connection(if I download it to the computer and use adobe reader there is an option)
also does anyone know how long it takes for bookeen to reply when I contact them using this link?:http://bookeen.com/en/supportcontact/ I contacted them on Jan 12 and still no response? thanks again for the new update!

  6. Hi,

A thought for a future upgrade – the ability to just display the filenames of the books and not the thumbnails (and to sort by the file names). When I buy a book I rename it to include the series number (so part one of a trilogy has the trilogy name followed by the number of the book in the trilogy) and my new Orizon doesn’t seem to sort them properly.

    1. Hello Phil,
The titles displayed in your library are the titles in the meta-data of the books, which explains why these are not altered when you change the file name. However, you can already sort your library by filename, which may be what you are looking for. From the library menu, choose Sort > File Name. You can also modify the titles in the meta-data using a library management application like Calibre (free download http://calibre-ebook.com/).

  8. The upgrade is very nice-the contrast is wonderful and the notes and highlights features are wonderful. But I don’t see how to read my notes other than going in and clicking at “edit” and reading it off there.

    1. Hello Anna,
thanks for your message. We’re very glad to know you like the new features. 🙂 You can read notes in the “edit note” function as you discovered already. Also, the notes will sync with Adobe Digital Editions, so you can also transfer them to your PC and read them there. In addition, the .annot files can be read with any text-editor (like notepad) if you prefer to read them directly.

  9. why do people keep asking for a updated manual? one of the first things I did when I updated was to look at the manual and I was pleased to see that it was updated!!!
one thing that I can not seem to find in the manual it that when I touch the bottom left corner of the screen twice in a row three arcs arcs appear on the bottom left corner and stay there until I touch twice in the corner again, the orizon seems to work the same with this showing as when it is not, so what is it for?

    1. Hello Bob,
thanks for your message. To answer your question, the icon you see on the lower left corner is just a visual reminder to indicate the shortcut available by tapping that corner (toggle display menu). You’re absolutely right that it doesn’t affect the behaviour of the Orizon, whether it’s visible or not. 🙂

  10. I’m considerating buying orizon but only dictionary or glossary is missing for me. It would be nice to select word and get comprisal like in Kindle or sony prs ebooks… I saw taht gen3 has ability of adding custom dictionary (I have seen it in forum on mobiread)….

    Like

    1. Hello Chorpo, thanks for your comment! The Gen3 dictionary support depends on using the Mobipocket firmware. If you switch to mobipocket you can use the dictionary of your choice on the Gen3. The Epub format does not have a fully-defined dictionary format support yet, although the IDPF are in the process of refining it. As soon as they do, we will add this, of course. But we know that dictionary support is very important for many of our users, that is why we are working on a “made in Bookeen” dictionary support for our epub firmware, and we will keep you posted as soon as there is some news!
      Thanks for your interest.

  11. Hi, I really appreciated the update!
Would there be any chance to also have an “All bookmarks” repository function, such as some folder within the Home menu allowing to pass from one half-read book to another just by selecting a different bookmark to get for instance to the last read page?
Also, a text Search function would be great: for instance, backward searching to find back where some character already appeared in the book I’m reading; and, a “back to the last page” like in web browsers, to get back where I left once I find the past reference.
Finally, my vote for an integrated dictionary! If not asking too much, in that order, it’d be really superb!
Thanks for considering this, and congratz for the good work done!

  14. Hi Bookeen team,
Will Orizon have dictionary in next update (support for Stardict dictionaries would be perfect…)? Searching in library would be also very useful. How about making Orizon more social? Are you planning to add facebook.com or goodreads.com support. goodreads is used many readers and it can track on what page are you, what book are you reading, what books read your friends…

  15. Thank you for this wonderful product. I’m reading as I had never done before.
I have some requests for new features and enhancements:

    1. An RSS feed reader that allows offline reading;
    2. the ability to navigate more efficiently (through a list) between the notes and bookmarks;
    3. the ability to have user profiles (that could perhaps be useful, especially in family), each with their bookmarks, highlights and notes, and the possibility, if you wants, to read the notes and use bookmarks and highlights of the others.

    Thanks and great job! 🙂

    1. Hello Giancarlo,
thanks so much for your message. You make some very interesting suggestions and I will pass them along to our dev team, and keep you posted as soon as I have any news.

Concerning RSS feeds, you may want to look into an RSS aggregator. Calibre for instance has a feature which will automatically download RSS feeds (you simply program the frequency and other options), create an epub file, and even automatically send it to your Cybook when you connect it. Calibre is a library-management application available for free here: http://calibre-ebook.com/. There are other online RSS feed aggregators which might be interesting for you if you don’t want to use Calibre.

      I hope this helps!

  16. I have found that when using the web browser I can only right in single line textboxes (like google search). If I touch a bigger textbox (like this box I am writing in…) I am bounced out of the browser back to the home screen.
I am wondering how the orizon decides which books to show on the home screen? at first I thought it was done by most recently read ones (the very top one is…) however this does not seem to be the case. also I think it would be more useful if instead of just showing the icon for the books on the homescreen it could say the name of the book underneath, this is a problem when I have a lot of books from gutenberg which do not come with distinctive covers.
I think it would be nice if it was possible to make general notes instead of having to link them them in with a book.

P.S. I realize that I might sound like I don’t like the cybook orizon, however that is not the case. I really do like the orizon and its new firmware, I am just thinking of things that would make it even better!

    1. Hello Bob,
thanks so much for your detailed message. We’re very happy to know that you like your Orizon and are enjoying the latest upgrade. I’ll pass your suggestions along to our dev team. Concerning your questions, I believe that the home page displays at the top, the book(s) you’re currently reading, then the latest books added to your library (by date added). However the next upgrade will provide a new interface for the home screen which you may find useful.
Concerning the note-taking idea, that is a good point. A way to make this possible might be to create an empty “notes” file which you could use to put all your notes that were not relative to a specific book. Then you could access this file directly to consult all your notes.
The text box question, I’m afraid I am unable to answer! Please contact our support directly for more information and to report this behaviour, using the contact form on our site: http://www.bookeen.com/en/supportcontact/.

  19. Thank you! I will do that. one other thing that I think would be really cool is if you would change what pictures it puts up when you turn it off. this could be done by having a folder that could be accessed when plugging into the computer.

I am wondering what chargers I can use to charge my orizon plugged into the wall? can any usb charger be used? I would order the one from bookeens website except I just checked and I would have to pay about the same amount on shipping as for the charger itself! would the amazon kindle charger work? http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Replacement-Adapter-Display-Generation/dp/B002Y27P4Q/ref=_5_1?pf_rd_p=1286512642&pf_rd_s=center-55-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B003DZ1Y8Q&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0BSDQZ3HSDF4Z4QJD21C

Concerning the charger, you can use any charger which meets these specifications:

      Input: AC100-240V 50/60Hz
      Output: DC5.0V +/- 5%
      Max: 700mA Min 150mA

You can usually find generic chargers which have adaptable tips and settings at electronics or hardware stores.

  20. Hi there,

When will the details of the third update be published on the blog?

I have a couple of questions: I borrow books from my city library on my Bookeen by accessing their website through the browser. They are authorised using my bookeen/Adobe account. However, I have a couple of issues with the licences for these items, as the number of remaining days seems to fluctuate (sometimes going above the maximum number of days authorised for the loan!), how is this calculated given that there are no time/date settings? Secondly, will you look to develop functionality to ‘return’ these items in the future, as I often finish before the end of the loan period, and would like to remove these items from my list of loans. This is a feature that is possible using Digital Editions, but as I download directly onto my Orizon, this bypasses ADE.

    Thanks for your help!

  21. Hello!
I have two question. First one: I have purchased your travel charger, specifications are:

    Input 100-240V ~50-60Hz 0.3A 18VA
    Output 5V==1A

i.e output is greater than the 750mA you have written in your latest post, is it dangerous for my Orizon? I hope no, I have purchased Bookeen original charger in order to avoid any kind of problem!!!

Second one: I read on your facebook page that a new upgrade of Orizon’s FW was released last weekend, but when I try to connect with my device a message “Unable to find host” appear. Internet connection to other web sites working well.

    Thank you, Regards
